One aspect of dentistry many patients are not fond of is impressions. For decades, the only option for making a dental impression was to use a goopy mold that we placed and held in the patient’s mouth. Last year, we attended a training course about the InstaRisa scanner, which eliminates goopy impressions. Click above to watch a video of this remarkable technology in action!
What is InstaRisa?
We use the InstaRisa scanner to collect images and scan your face. After combining these images with others from inside your mouth, we can create accurate, custom dental restorations, including dentures. This method allows our team to make a product that fits perfectly and looks like natural teeth and gums.
As you can see in the video, the first step in using the scanner is to take digital images of the head, face, and mouth from a sitting position. The second step is to scan inside the mouth with a wand. The wand immediately displays the images on a screen to ensure we are getting the complete picture. The images are then viewed on a touchscreen, where they can be moved to view different angles. Once we have all the images we need and are happy with the results, we send everything to the lab to create custom dentures.
