Why Choose a Professional for Whitening?

There are many over-the-counter (OTC) options for teeth whitening available at your local drugstore or market. However, these bleaching options are not as strong as professional solutions and cannot penetrate as deeply into the enamel to break apart stubborn stains.

While generally effective at removing most of the stains on the surface of teeth, OTC formulas are rarely able to reach the stains between the micro cracks in tooth enamel and in the layer of dentin underneath.

Being guided by a professional when using a bleaching product can also help reduce any sensitivity that you may experience, and you will receive a customized approach to teeth whitening that fits your specific needs.

Darker stains, such as those caused by tetracycline, need to be treated repeatedly or, if tolerated, with stronger bleaching solutions. We take all aspects into consideration to recommend the best option for you.

Why Do Teeth Darken?

PnP-separator-v1

As we age, the outer layer of enamel on our teeth wears down, and the naturally yellow color of the dentin underneath begins to show through. In addition to simply aging, tobacco use, certain medications, and foods and drinks, such as coffee, tea and colas, can cause teeth to become stained or discolored.

Opalescence® Teeth Whitening at Home

Opalescence® contains an active whitening ingredient that penetrates your enamel to get to the discolored molecules. Oxygen molecules from the whitening agents react with the discolored molecules in your teeth, breaking the bonds that hold them together. The oxygen molecules spread, whitening the entire tooth.

The Opalescence® take-home whitening system is only available through a licensed dental professional. The gel is available in four different concentrations and three flavors. Higher gel concentrations allow for less time wearing trays, and at a 35% concentration, trays are worn for as little as 30 minutes per day. Trays may be worn either during the day or at night, and your doctor will help you choose which concentration will work best for your specific needs.

The bleaching trays are customized from an impression of your mouth, ensuring a snug fit and more effective treatment. You’ll see results after the first session, and after one week, you’ll really notice a difference.
