Cleanings & Gum Disease Treatment in St. Marys
We help you keep your teeth healthy for life!
Experienced, caring hygienists
Our hygienists have been with the practice for many years. They are well-trained professionals who enjoy what they do and genuinely care about your dental health and wellbeing.
Gentle, thorough Teeth Cleanings
We routinely hear from patients that their cleaning was the best they’ve ever received, and without pain. Our hygienists are very thorough and very gentle, ensuring your comfort throughout the procedure.
Friendly patient education
Gum disease is the number one cause of tooth loss in adults. Our goal is to help you keep your natural teeth for life, and in addition to regular cleanings, our hygienists provide friendly advice and education about proper flossing and brushing techniques.
They use visual aids, such as charts, models, diagrams and computer simulations to explain why practicing good oral hygiene habits is so important to your overall health.
Ultrasonic scalers for maximum comfort and effectiveness
Oral irrigation reaches below the gum line where bacteria flourish. Our hygienists use ultrasonic scalers to remove hardened tartar and treat inflamed gums. The ultrasonic scaler moves gently back and fourth, producing sound waves that break apart stubborn calculus that irritates gums.
High-Tech, comfortable Gum Disease Treatment
We focus on preventative care such as patient education and regular cleanings, however, there are times when gum disease does occur and we are well equipped to handle this issue.
Scaling and root planing
Scaling and root planing, also known as deep cleaning, are the first steps used to treat mild to moderate gum disease. Your hygienist will start with the scaling process, by gently and skillfully removing hardened dental plaque from your teeth.
To discourage the future growth of bacteria, the roots of your teeth will be “planed” to smooth the surface. Since it’s difficult for bacteria to adhere to the freshly smoothed surfaces, your gums can regenerate without further irritation. The gum tissue will subsequently shrink, tighten, and reattach to the teeth.
Eliminating the bacteria
ARESTIN® therapy contains tiny microspheres filled with a powerful, time-released antibiotic. These microspheres are placed exactly where you need them, between the teeth and gums, to help eliminate any bacteria that may remain after a scaling and planing procedure.
In addition to local antibiotic therapy with Arestin, we also use systemic oral antibiotics when necessary. To make an appointment, call [sc name="phone"] or click here to request an appointment online.
