Our Approach to a Smile Makeover
Our doctors believe in taking a conservative approach to all dentistry, achieving the best results with the least amount of treatment. Each case is evaluated individually. Your doctor wants to get to know you and understand your expectations, your goals for the appearance of your smile, and your budgetary considerations.
Although cosmetic dentistry is primarily focused on appearance, our doctors believe that a strong foundation of good oral health is the first step towards creating a lovely smile that you can flash proudly.
Our doctors take a very thorough approach to designing your new smile. Steps may include the following:
- Full oral examination
- TMJ and bite alignment check
- Custom smile analysis to ensure your smile is properly proportioned
- Digital imaging software to preview how your smile can look
- Taking digital photographs in various positions for planning and presentation
- Taking impressions to create study models of your mouth
- Building a prototype known as a “wax-up” and manipulating it to idealize your smile
- Using shade guides to select the perfect tone for your teeth
- Using temporary restorations to test your bite; taking digital photographs and sending them to our lab for consultation and fabrication
After you have had the opportunity to “test drive” your smile, we partner with the world-class VIVIDX lab when creating your final restorations. We have a direct relationship with our own technicians who are truly artists. Your restoration will never be sent to China or a dental mill for fabrication.
Conditions We Can Fix With Cosmetic Dentistry
Our High-Tech Cosmetic Procedures
Minimal Preparation Veneers
To correct certain flaws, our doctors use very thin porcelain veneers that require little or no shaving of the surface of the tooth. Veneers may be used to give teeth a permanent whitening, to straighten mildly crooked teeth, change the shape or length of teeth, close gaps and cover chips.
Dental Bonding
With dental bonding, our doctors can fix many of the same cosmetic flaws that are corrected with veneers. This tooth-colored composite is similar to the material used for fillings and provides an economical alternative to porcelain veneers.
Teeth Whitening
We offer at-home teeth whitening with Opalescence. Your whitening treatment is customized to your specific needs.
Invisalign® Teeth Straightening
With Invisalign®, we provide teeth straightening for adults and teens. The clear plastic aligners are nearly invisible and can be removed when eating, cleaning your teeth, or for special occasions.
Dental Implants
We can provide full dental implant services in one convenient location. Dr. Pennington will insert the implant post, and either they or Dr. Parker will design a comfortable, well-fitting restoration. Dental implants are truly the modern solution for replacing missing teeth, and they provide a very natural look, feel, and function.
Cosmetic Laser Gum Treatment
To create a more aesthetically pleasing smile, our doctors can use a laser to gently remove excess tissue to even out a gum line or fix a smile that shows too much gum.
Crown Lengthening for Gummy Smiles
If you feel that your teeth look too short or that your gums cover too much of your teeth, you probably have what is known as a “gummy” smile. This condition can be quickly and easily remedied with a procedure called crown lengthening. Our doctors use soft tissue lasers to gently remove excess gum tissue and expose more of the natural tooth.
Lasers provide the benefit of sealing the ends of blood vessels during the procedure, so there is no need for cutting or suturing and little or no discomfort following the treatment.
Gum Re-Contouring to Straighten Gum Lines
Even if your teeth are healthy, straight and white, an uneven gum line can adversely affect the aesthetics of your smile. The soft tissue laser procedure used to sculpt gummy smiles is also used for altering an uneven gum line. Excess gum tissue is removed around a single tooth or teeth to create a more consistent appearance.
Before & After Porcelain Restoration/Crown Cases
This patient was unhappy with her existing crowns and received new porcelain crowns.
Erosion and wear had shortened this patient’s front teeth. Porcelain restorations restored his smile.
Porcelain crowns replaced discolored crowns that didn’t match the patient’s natural teeth.
Chewing on her back teeth was difficult for this patient. Porcelain restorations allowed her to eat normally again.
