One-Visit Onlays and Inlays in St. Marys
Tooth-colored restorations in a single visit
Onlays and inlays are used in place of fillings to repair a damaged tooth. They are far less invasive than crowns which require that the tooth be shaved or ground down so that the crown will fit correctly. Our doctors use onlays or inlays whenever possible because they believe that preserving tooth structure is extremely important.
With advanced CEREC® technology, we can place onlays and inlays during one visit. After digital impressions have been made, our doctors design your restoration and it is milled out of a single piece of durable, tooth-colored porcelain.
Experienced tooth preservation
Drs. Parker and Pennington have a great deal of experience placing onlays and inlays. Although this method of treatment is more difficult than fabricating and placing a crown, our doctors use onlays and inlays to conserve tooth structure whenever possible.
Onlays and Inlays are essentially the same procedure, yet applied to different areas of the tooth structure. Inlays fit into the center of a tooth to repair areas damaged by decay, and onlays cover the pointed cusps or the entire biting surface a tooth. An onlay is used when the damage to the tooth is more extensive, but still not enough to require a full crown.
Benefits of Onlays and Inlays
Aesthetics: Onlays and inlays match the color of your natural teeth and are not likely to discolor over time.
Precise fit: The CEREC system provides highly accurate control for a precision fit, and porcelain doesn’t shrink during the curing process, as composite fillings may do.
Cleaning and flossing: Onlays and inlays are tailored at all edges and can be much easier to brush and floss around than a full crown is.
Strength: These restorations are very durable and can strengthen and protect a damaged tooth.
