Benefits & Advantages of Invisalign®

Clear, plastic aligners are removable when needed and don’t irritate gums like metal braces often do.

The Invisalign® teeth straightening procedure provides many advantages over traditional metal braces, such as:

1

They’re nearly invisible. Others may not even notice you’re wearing the clear aligners at all.

2

You can remove aligners to brush and floss as you normally would to maintain good oral health.

3

You can eat what you want. Just pop out the trays when you want to order popcorn at the movies or bite into a juicy apple.

4

You won’t be memorialized in photos with a mouth full of metal. Simply remove your aligners and say “Cheese!”

5

Smooth plastic trays don’t irritate teeth and gums like metal wires and rubber bands often do.

6

Dental visits are scheduled every six weeks—less often than with traditional braces.

How Invisalign® Works

The Invisalign® process uses a series of clear plastic trays that gently shift your teeth into the correct position. Treatment takes about a year for adults, and for teens, about the same amount of time as with braces. There are no wires and brackets obstructing your view of your teeth, so you can see the positive changes as they occur.

Planning Your Treatment

First, Dr. Parker takes digital X-rays, external photos and impressions of your teeth. Invisalign® uses this information to create digital 3D images of your teeth that Dr. Parker uses to map out a precise treatment plan. He can show you a virtual representation of how your teeth will move with each stage of treatment and let you know the approximate treatment time.

Custom Aligners Based on Your Treatment Plan

With Invisalign®, you get a series of custom-made, clear aligners that follow the treatment plan designed by Dr. Parker. The aligners are made of a smooth, BPA-free plastic that won’t irritate your gums.

For best results, you should wear your aligners 20-22 hours a day, and you can remove them to eat and to brush and floss your teeth.

Gradually Straightening Your Teeth

Your aligners will be traded out about every two weeks, with each new set advancing you to the next stage of the treatment. You’ll come into our office every four to six weeks so that Dr. Parker can keep an eye on your progress.

Invisalign® Express

Invisalign® Express offers an effective, affordable, fast and convenient way to straighten minor aesthetic concerns in three months or less. This accelerated process uses five sets of aligner trays that are replaced approximately every two weeks.

Invisalign® for Teens

Once adult teeth have erupted, teens can have their teeth straightened effectively with Invisalign Teen® clear, removable aligner trays.

Invisalign Teen® offers the same benefits as adult treatment, with some added bonuses. Six replacement trays are provided free of charge with Invisalign Teen®. Plus, compliance tracking is built into the trays, which means that your teen, the dentist, and you can see how well your teen is sticking to the treatment plan. Like the adult treatment, Invisalign Teen® aligners can be removed to eat, brush, and floss.

Straight Talk About Crooked Teeth

Crooked teeth not only affect the appearance of your smile, they can also cause damage to adjacent teeth and create conditions that lead to periodontal disease. The video below shows how straightening your teeth can also improve your overall health.

Conditions Invisalign® Can Correct

Invisalign® can fix a wide variety of problems with teeth and bite alignment. Mild cases of crooked teeth as well as much more complex problems involving serious bite issues can be corrected with the clear plastic aligner trays.

Here are some of the conditions Dr. Parker can fix with Invisalign®:

Crowding

Crowded teeth can be difficult to clean properly, and lack of proper oral care can promote tooth decay and put you at a higher risk of gum disease.

Overbite

An overbite can cause excessive wear on the lower teeth, irritate gums, and can also cause jaw problems.

Underbite

This occurs when the bottom teeth protrude beyond the upper teeth and can interfere with the normal function of front teeth and molars, which can lead to jaw problems.

Gaps in Teeth

Gaps can cause teeth to shift into the empty spaces and become loose because the dental arch is not as secure. Food and bacteria are easily trapped in gaps, which increases the risk for tooth decay and gum disease.

Crossbite

This is a symptom of jaw misalignment that can result in worn-down teeth, gum disease or both.

Open Bite

An open bite can interfere with chewing and cause speech impairment and jaw problems.
